For me it depends on the end use. Katan feels more structured for classic sarees. Brocade works when the client wants presence in photos. Tissue is what I suggest when they want light drape for evening events in Dubai heat.

I buy for a small retail shop in New Jersey. American customers often prefer softer hand-feel, so tissue and lighter brocades sell faster than heavy wedding katan. I still keep a few rich pieces for the Diwali rush.

If you are outsourcing stitching to a unit, ask them what their machines handle well. Some factories struggle with very soft tissue on long runs. Brocade with stable ground cloth is easier for consistent yardage.

I started with katan samples, then moved to brocade once I understood motif scale. For dress materials, I check both face and reverse before confirming a reel. Saves returns later.
